Continuing Education for Counselors
2012 Association Conference
Dates: April 19-21, 2012
Location: National Conference Center, Leesburg, VA
This year's theme—CONSTRUCTION & COLLABORATION: Pathways to the Future—describes the many emerging pathways within AAPC, and acknowledges the association's focus on leading edge theory and practice in counseling and psychotherapy. This year's conference has an intentional clinical focus, with plenary sessions and workshops to enhance the practice of clinicians, as well as workshops directed explicitly toward clergy, educators, and those engaged in community settings.
Speakers Pam Couture, Ron Manderscheid, and Harlene Anderson, all innovators in their fields, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to plenary presentations.
Rev. Pamela D. Couture, Ph.D. is the Jane and Geoffrey Martin Chair in Church & Community at Emmanuel College, Toronto, Canada. Previously having attained Fellow status in AAPC, Pamela’s work is influenced by narrative therapy and she has long worked at the intersections of the social, cultural, and economic contexts in which pastoral care and counseling operates.
Harlene Anderson, Ph.D. is recognized internationally as working at the leading edge of postmodern collaborative practices as a therapist, consultant, and educator. She has authored numerous books and articles and is the recipient of the prestigious 2000 Outstanding Contributions to Marriage and Family Therapy Award from AAMFT.
Ronald W. Manderscheid, Ph.D., is a national expert in health care reform. He currently serves as Executive Director of The National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors and Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and brings an important perspective on community-based care and faith communities that promises to enliven our thinking and practice.
NBCC continuing education credits will be available for all conference workshops, covering a broad range of topics on clinical, theological and social justice themes.
This year's conference will start Thursday, April 19, with pre-conference workshops on themes of social constructionist thought and postmodern therapies, and concludes Sunday, April 22, following a community reflection and liturgy.
